WHO WE ARE

The DanubeSchoolsSeries is a well-established and respected platform of exchange and debate among political decision makers, academics and students regarding the Danube region. It is managed by the EDA, the European Danube Academy, in cooperation with a lot of universities and institutions from many cities along the Danube.

WHAT WE DO

Since 2014, we have organized many so-called DanubeSchools, for which young people from all Danube countries can apply to participate. Within the short study programs they learn about Danube region topics, build friendships and start projects together. Students can get ECTS for participating. Sounds good? WHAT WE WANT

The DanubeSchoolsSeries wants to bring people together, provide them with expertise and give them the chance to build networks. Our participants gain knowledge on cultures, institutional structures and the complexity of the Danube region. Thereby, we aim at strengthening prosperity, democracy and peace all along the Danube!

OUR SCHOOLS

DanubeSchoolsSeries currently consists of 4 Danube Schools taking place in different countries and seasons.
All summer schools are separate units but strongly connected through topics, aims, backgrounds as well as through people and project ideas.

MILESTONES

2013: IDEATION

What if we would stop defining regions by borders that divide us but start to see them as areas connected through nature?
Wouldn’t it be nice to have an event inviting people from all the Danube region and teaching this idea? But what should it look like? How should we name it? Who organizes it? In 2013 the EDA started the Ideation phase leading to the Danube Schools Series!

2014: 1st DS IN NEU-/ULM

Finally – after some time of ideation and planning our first Danube School starts bringing together people from all the Danube area. It was and still is one of a kind of educational events in the Danube basin!

2016: 2nd LOCATION - DS BUDAPEST

Danube Schools goes international! For the first time we have Danube Schools not only in Germany, but also in lovely Hungary. The spirit of a Danube region coming closer together is present and grows – Great!

2017: 3rd LOCATION - DS NOVI SAD

Novi Sad is a great city – Not only because of its nice culture and people, but also because it is our 3rd Danube School Location!

2019: 4th LOCATION - DS RUSE

We are more than happy that after Germany, Hungary and Serbia there is another country having a Danube School: Bulgaria! We are happy to have Ruse aboard and are looking forward to many future Danube events in Bulgaria!

UTOPIA: DSs ALL ALONG THE DANUBE

Ulm, Budapest, Novi Sad & Ruse are only the beginning. They are some many more cities, stakeholders and students willing to get together and learn more about the Danube region – We want to connect them. Just like the Danube!

The Danube Schools are part of a greater connection of networks and partnerships within the Danube region. They are a result of the work of several institutions, associations and active individuals. Since the European Commission adopted the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) in 2010, there has been a growing demand for individuals who understand this complex region as well as the structures of the EU and other international and national institutions. As the EUSDR was implemented to create synergies and coordination between existing policies and initiatives taking place across the Danube region, there is a great demand of exchange of perspectives, knowledge and opinions through networking, open discussions and expertise.
